The warming days arriving here in North Texas over the past week has got everyone thinking about Spring shallow water blue catfish trips. Those that have fished with me in the past know that this is an awesome time of the year for catching shallow water blue catfish and makes for some amazing fishing.
This is hands down the best fishing of the year for numbers of blue catfish in the one to ten pound range and opportunities exist to catch some trophy blue cats as well. If you have never fished with me on one of these shallow water blue catfish trips in the spring, you don’t know what your missing.
Catching fish in skinny water (often times a matter of inches of water) and pulling them in one after another is most often the typical day on these trips. If you hook into a trophy class blue in inches of water, you had better hold on, because your in for a good time. Nothing gets my blood boiling more than seeing one of these monster fish explode the water when it strikes, it is an awesome experience.
This bite typically begins to pick up around mid to late March and will run through the first week or two in May, depending on the weather and how quickly the water begins to warm.
I will be running my spring shallow water blue catfish trips on Eagle Mountain Lake and Lake Lewisville this year.
