We are still catfishing at Eagle Mountain Lake. The catfish bite has slowed some from the previous weeks. The bite up until about a week ago was some of the best summer catfishing I have ever experienced on Eagle Mountain Lake.
Even though the bite has slowed some we are still producing some great catches and the catfish bite continues to be good to excellent, especially in the evenings. We are primarily fishing for channel catfish but have been catching a few blue catfish as well. The heat of the day fishing is excellent and we are using some different techniques than we have been using during previous weeks as well as some unique baits as well.
Overall in a nutshell we are not catching as many fish as we have been in previous weeks but the fish are averaging a much bigger size overall. The water temp has dropped considerably and I suspect the lake will start turning over in a few weeks.
If you are one of my clients that is big into fly fishing (I know there are a bunch of you out there) give me a shout if you want to take your fly rod for a whirl, it’s an excellent time for that.
I am seeing a lot of people drift fishing for catfish but those that I have spoken to seem to be producing limited results.
The sandbass (white bass) bite continues to be good to excellent but the bite is much better during the week than on the weekends. The weekend fishermen definitely need some lessons and coaching on not running the fish down.
We have some openings for the coming week and mornings only open for Labor Day weekend on Eagle Mountain Lake. If you want to get in on some of the summer catfishing on Eagle Mountain Lake.
I have been getting a lot of calls from people wanting to know about Fall catfishing and Winter fishing for trophy blue catfish and also wanting to know when I will be back on some of the other lakes since I have been catfishing on Eagle Mountain Lake for the Summer.
I will continue to fish at Eagle Mountain Lake until the weather cools. As soon as we get a good cool front and the Fall catfishing kicks back in I will start offering trips on Lake Lewisville again as well. We are also going to offer some trips on Lake Worth this Fall and Winter also (catch and release only).
Lake Worth is an amazing catfish lake that has a good population of big blue catfish, but fish cannot be kept due to PCB levels.
The Fall and Winter schedule is starting to book so make sure you call or email soon and get on the books to get the best dates. As always call me at 817-522-3804 if you have any questions.
