LAKE LEWISVILLE FISHING GUIDE SERVICE FOR BLUE CATFISH, CHANNEL CATFISH, FLATHEAD CATFISH, HYBRID STRIPED BASS AND SANDBASS (WHITE BASS)

Lake Lewisville Trophy Blue Catfish

North Texas Catfish Guide Service is proud to call Lake Lewisville home. Lake Lewisville is located in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex North of Lewisville Texas and South of Denton Texas. Lake Lewisville is about a twenty minute drive from Dallas Texas or DFW International Airport, or less than a thirty minute drive from Fort Worth Texas. The Lake Lewisville area also hosts numerous dining and entertainment options making it a popular area for tourism.

Lake Lewisville was impounded in 1954 and covers a surface area of 29, 592 acres with a maxium depth of 67 feet. Lake Lewisville sits on the Elm Fork of the Trinity River. Prior to Lake Lewisville being impounded in 1954, Lake Dallas and Garza Little Elm Reservoir existed in the area and then Lake Lewisville was built to join the old Garza Little Elm Reservoir and Lake Dallas.

Lake Lewisville has had a long standing reputation for being an excellent lake for catching Texas Blue Catfish, Channel Catfish and Flathead Catfish and was really put on the map in the late 1990's and early 2000's for producing amazing numbers of Trophy Blue Catfish. Lake Lewisville also held the state record flathead catfish during the 1980's as well. Lake Lewisville has been continually called "the best catfish lake in Texas" by many of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Biologists for many years. There is no doubt that Lake Lewisville holds excellent numbers of Blue Catfish, Trophy Blue Catfish, Channel Catfish and Flathead Catfish.

In addition to producing excellent catches of Catfish, Lake Lewisville also holds excellent numbers of Sandbass (White Bass) and Hybrid Striped Bass, and Gar. Lake Lewisville is a deep reservoir with lot's of main lake structure and plenty of flooded timber throughout the entire lake that was never cleared, leaving an excellent habitat for the Lake Lewisville Catfish, Lake Lewisville White Bass, Lake Lewisville Hybrid Striped Bass and Lake Lewisville White Bass. Much of the old Lake Dallas is full of flooded timber, the Hickory Creek and Little Elm arms are full of flooded timber, and the main lake of Lake Lewisville still holds large areas of flooded trees and timber that are still standing. Many areas of Lake Lewisville still have tree tops sticking out of the water in 50 foot of water. Lake Lewisville also has an excellent population of Threadfin Shad and Gizzard Shad.

Lake Lewisville's Hybrid Striped Bass population has really taken off in the last few years thanks to agressive stocking programs from Texas Parks and Wildlife. North Texas Catfish Guide Service has been producing excellent results of Hybrid Striped Bass catches on Lake Lewisville Guided Fishing Trips for several years now, in addition to the excellent catches of Lake Lewisville White Bass and Lake Lewisville Blue Catfish and Channel Catfish. Lake Lewisville also has excellent populations of Gar create opportunities for Summer Gar fishing.

Lake Lewisville is an excellent choice for a guided fishing trip with North Texas Catfish Guide service and always produces some nice blue catfish and channel catfish, as well as hybrid striped bass and white bass.. If your wanting to catch some nice "eating sized" blue catfish or channel catfish or get your line stretched by a Trophy Blue Catfish then Lake Lewisville is an excellent choice for your guided fishing trip with North Texas Catfish Guide Service..

Lake Dallas is the "Old Lake" and many still refer to the upper Northwest arm of Lake Lewisville as Lake Dallas so if you hear someone tlking about Lake Dallas catfish or Lake Dallas Fishing it is actually Lake Lewisville catfish or Lake Lewisville Fishing they are referraing to.

Food and lodging are available in the Nearby Towns of Lewisville, Shady Shores, Lake Dallas and Hickory Creek and there are several state parks and RV parks in different areas around the lake for camping on Lake Lewisville or parking your RV on Lake Lewisville. Look towards the bottom of this page for Lake Lewisville lodging recommendations and Lake Lewisville Camping reccomendations.

Lake Lewisville Fishing and Catfishing is excellent year around so any time of the year would be a great time for a guided fishing trip with North Texas Catfish Guide Service.

For Winter Fishing or Catfishing on Lake Lewisville North Texas Catfish Guide Service will Focus on Lake Lewisville Trophy Blue Catfish. The Lake Lewisville Trophy Blue Catfish Trips with North Texas Catfish Guide Service are Catch and Release only on all catfish over 10 lbs and all Trophy Catfish Trips are done with rod and reel. Most of the catfish will average 25-30 pounds but catfish over 50 lbs are abundant in Lake Lewisville. The best time of the year for Trophy Blue Catfish (also called High Fin Blue Catfish or Mississippi White Catfish) are November, December, January, February and Early March. North Texas Catfish Guide Service will do it's best to put you on a big Lake Lewisville Trophy Blue Catfish and get your line stretched anytime your fishing with us though, not just in the dead of winter, but Winter is the peak time for catching Trophy Blue Catfish in Texas. If you want to greatly increase your odds of catching a Big Monster Texas Blue Catfish then you need to fish during the dead of Winter, because that's when the best catches of Trophy Blue Catfish always take place. While most of our fishing efforts are focused on catching Lake Lewisville Trophy Blue Catfish during our winter fishing trips on Lake Lewisville, Winter can also be an excellent time for catching Hybrid Striped Bass on Lake Lewisville as well.

We also have a great time with the Cormorant Catfishing on Lake Lewisville in the Fall and Winter for Lake Lewisville Blue Catfish and Lake Lewisville Channel Catfish. Cormorant Catfishing (also called "Fishing the Birds" or "Fishing the Water Turkeys") is a great way to catch a nice mess of Lake Lewisville Blue Catfish and Lake Lewisville Channel Catfish. Cormorant Catfishing Trips will start in early October and be good through the middle of spring, usually mid April. On Cormorant Catfishing trips on Lake Lewisville in the fall and winter most of the fish are usually blue catfish and average in size from one to ten pounds but an occasional Trophy Blue Catfish is possible and Blue Catfish in the 20-35 pound range are very common on cormorant catfishing trips on Lake Lewisville.

Once the weather at Lake Lewsiville begins to warm up the catfishing warms up as well. North Texas Catfish Guide Service will start focusing on structure fishing Lake Lewisville for Blue Catfish and Channel Catfish. The spring catfishing is some of the best fishing of the year for shear numbers of good quality catfish. It;s not uncommon to catch well over 100 Lake lewisville Blue Catfish on a spring trip with all the fish being 3 lbs and up with an occasional Trophy Blue Catfish in the mix as well. Spring Catfishing is typically excellent during the months of March, April and Early may with some amazing catches. This is one our favorite times of the year for catching numbers of "eating sized" 1-10 lb Blue Catfish. It is also in the Spring on Lake Lewisville that the White Bass and Hybrid Striped Bass really start putting their feedbags on anc really start feeding heavily making up for the cold water period. This period also encompasses the famous Texas White Bass run when the White Bass start spawning. Overall the spring is just an excellent time for catching numbers of fish whether it be White Bass (Sandbass) Hybrids or Catfish on Lake Lewisville.

Lake Lewisville is also known for large groups of feeding gulls in the late Winter and Spring that makes for some exciting fishing for White Bass (Sandbass) and Hybrid Striped Bass as wel during the late Winter on Lake Lewisville and Spring on Lake Lewisville.

As Summer approaches at Lake Lewisville, it will produce good numbers of Blue Catfish and Channel Catfish and some good sized fish as well. The rod and reel catfishing on Lake Lewisville remain good during the summer for the most part with good catches of Lake Lewisville Blue Catfish and Lake Lewisville Channel Catfish. . The White Bass and Hybrid Striped Bass fishing really heats up during the heat of the summer as well and fishing for Lake Lewisville White Bass and Lake Lewisville Hybrid Striped Bass generally remains excellent. White Bass and Hybrids will start surface feeding and we will use a number of techniques including slabbing, trolling, live bait fishing and top water fishing. When the days get really hot in the dead of summer, we will focus on fishing early mornings and late evenings and nights on Lake Lewisville. The catfishing stays great throughout the summer and some great catfishing will still take place on Lake Lewisville. Night fishing trips are also a great way to take in some Lake Lewsiville catfish in the summer and usually produces some really good numbers of catfish. We also offer Jug Fishing trips on Lake Lewisville during the summer for Lake Lewisville Blue Catfish and Lake Lewisville Channel Catfish. Rod and Reel fishing at night is also available for Flatehead Catfish on Lake Lewisville as well as Night Fishing for Blue Catfish and Lake Lewisville Channel Catfish. Gar fishing is also good on rod and reel during the days in the summer.

The bottom line is, the catfishing is great all year long and anytime is a great time to catch some Lake Lewisville Catfish. White Bass fishing is best on Lake Lewisville from March to October and the Hybrid Striped Bass Fishing on Lake Lewisville is generally good all year long. Just give us a call if your interested in booking a guided fishing trip with North Texas Catfish Guide Service for Lake Lewisville Blue Catfish, Lake Lewisville Channel Catfish, Lake Lewisville Trophy Catfish, Lake Lewisville White Bass (Sandbass) or Lake Lewisville Hybrids.

LAKE LEWISVILLE HISTORY

LEWISVILLE LAKE. Lewisville Lake is on the Elm Fork of the Trinity River one mile northeast of Lewisville and fifteen miles southeast of Denton in southeastern Denton County. The reservoir is owned by the United States government and operated by the United States Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District; its purpose is to control potential flood waters originating within the Elm Fork drainage basin. In addition, the lake assists in soil conservation, serves as a recreational area, and provides water for local municipalities.

Lewisville Lake is the second water-storage reservoir to impound the waters of the Elm Fork on this site. The first facility, Lake Dallas, served for thirty-one years as the principal source of municipal water for its owner, the city of Dallas. Construction of this lake, with its eighty-foot-high, 11,000-foot-long dam located near the village of Garza (renamed Lake Dallas, Texas, in 1929), began in February 1928. The lake was built by the W. E. Callahan Construction Company at a cost of just over $3 million. It had a 194,000-acre-foot capacity at an elevation of 525 feet and covered over 10,000 acres. It was nine miles long and three miles wide and had a forty-three-mile shoreline.

As flood control and conservation became more serious issues in the 1940s, Congress responded by passing the River and Harbor Act of March 2, 1945, which called for the construction of four flood-control lakes within the Trinity River basin. On November 28, 1948, the Corps of Engineers began work on a new Denton County dam and lake that would impound the waters of Clear, Little Elm, Stewart, Pecan, and Hickory creeks in addition to those of the Trinity River's Elm Fork. Although the 125-foot-high and 33,000-foot-long dam was not completed until 1955, impoundment began on November 1, 1954. The total cost of this project, known originally as the Garza-Little Elm Reservoir and Dam, was $21,756,500, with the cities of Dallas, Highland Park, University Park, and Denton contributing to the cost in exchange for access to the water. The new reservoir, popularly called Garza-Little Elm Lake, incorporated the older and smaller Lake Dallas on October 28, 1957, when the old Garza Dam was breached. The huge lake that resulted was thirteen miles long, had a 183-mile shoreline and a capacity of 436,000 acre-feet at an elevation of 515 feet, and covered almost one-fifth of Denton County.

The joining of Lake Dallas and Garza-Little Elm Reservoir apparently led to confusion concerning the facility's legal name, a problem which was compounded when the government redesignated the dam as Lewisville Dam in 1955 and the lake as Lewisville Reservoir in 1960. However, the decision concerning the lake's name was reversed the following year. Garza-Little Elm Reservoir remained the lake's official title until the mid-1970s, when it was renamed Lewisville Lake.
