Lake Lewisville was impounded in 1965 and covers a surface area of 32623 acres with a maxium depth of 53 feet. Cedar Creek Lake serves as a watershed for the City of Fort Worth and is managed by the Tarrant Regional Water District.
Cedar Creek Lake has a reputation for being an excellent lake for catching Texas Blue Catfish, Channel Catfish and Flathead Catfish. Cedar Creek Lake has been continually called " one of the the five best catfish lake in Texas" by many of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Biologists for many years. There is no doubt that Cedar Creek Lake holds excellent numbers of Blue Catfish, Trophy Blue Catfish, Channel Catfish and Flathead Catfish. Cedar Creek Lake also has no stocking record for Blue Catfish, despite the excellent populations of Blue Catfish that it holds.
In addition to producing excellent catches of Catfish, Cedar Creek Lake also holds excellent numbers of Sandbass (White Bass) and Hybrid Striped Bass, and Gar. Cedar Creek is a deep reservoir with lot's of main lake structure and plenty of flooded timber throughout the entire lake that was never cleared, leaving an excellent habitat for the Cedar Creek Lake Catfish, Cedar Creek Lake White Bass, Cedar Creek Lake Hybrid Striped Bass and Cedar Creek Lake White Bass. Much of the old Much of the Northern end of Cedar Creek Lake and many of the old creek channels still are full of flooded timber making excellent habitat for the catfish, sandbass and hybrids. Cedar Creek Lake also has an excellent population of Threadfin Shad and Gizzard Shad.
Cedar Creek Lake's Hybrid Striped Bass population is also excellent thanks to agressive stocking programs from Texas Parks and Wildlife. North Texas Catfish Guide Service has been producing excellent results of Hybrid Striped Bass catches on Cedar Creek Lake Guided Fishing Trips for several years now, in addition to the excellent catches of Cedar Creek Lake White Bass and Cedar Creek Lake Blue Catfish and Channel Catfish. Cedar Creek Lake also has excellent populations of Gar create opportunities for Summer Gar fishing.

For Winter Fishing or Catfishing on Cedar Creek Lake North Texas Catfish Guide Service will Focus on Cedar Creek Lake Trophy Blue Catfish. The Cedar Creek Lake Trophy Blue Catfish Trips with North Texas Catfish Guide Service are Catch and Release only on all catfish over 10 lbs and all Trophy Catfish Trips are done with rod and reel. Most of the catfish will average 25-30 pounds but catfish over 50 lbs are abundant in Cedar Creek Lake. The best time of the year for Trophy Blue Catfish (also called High Fin Blue Catfish or Mississippi White Catfish) are November, December, January, February and Early March. North Texas Catfish Guide Service will do it's best to put you on a big Cedar Creek Lake Trophy Blue Catfish and get your line stretched anytime your fishing with us though, not just in the dead of winter, but Winter is the peak time for catching Trophy Blue Catfish in Texas. If you want to greatly increase your odds of catching a Big Monster Texas Blue Catfish then you need to fish during the dead of Winter, because that's when the best catches of Trophy Blue Catfish always take place. While most of our fishing efforts are focused on catching Cedar Creek Lake Trophy Blue Catfish during our winter fishing trips on Cedar Creek Lake. Winter can also be an excellent time for catching Hybrid Striped Bass on Cedar Creek Lake as well.
We also have a great time with the Cormorant Catfishing on Cedar Creek Lake in the Fall and Winter for Cedar Creek Lake Blue Catfish and Cedar Creek Lake Channel Catfish. Cormorant Catfishing (also called "Fishing the Birds" or "Fishing the Water Turkeys") is a great way to catch a nice mess of Cedar Creek Lake Blue Catfish and Cedar Creek Lake Channel Catfish. Cormorant Catfishing Trips will start in early October and be good through the middle of spring, usually mid April. On Cormorant Catfishing trips on Cedar Creek Lake in the fall and winter most of the fish are usually blue catfish and average in size from one to ten pounds but an occasional Trophy Blue Catfish is possible and Blue Catfish in the 20-35 pound range are very common on cormorant catfishing trips on Cedar Creek Lake
Once the weather at Cedar Creek Lake begins to warm up the catfishing warms up as well. North Texas Catfish Guide Service will start focusing on structure fishing LCedar Creek Lake for Blue Catfish and Channel Catfish. The spring catfishing is some of the best fishing of the year for shear numbers of good quality catfish. It;s not uncommon to catch well over 100 Cedar Creek Lake Blue Catfish on a spring trip with all the fish being 3 lbs and up with an occasional Trophy Blue Catfish in the mix as well. Spring Catfishing is typically excellent during the months of March, April and Early may with some amazing catches. This is one our favorite times of the year for catching numbers of "eating sized" 1-10 lb Blue Catfish. It is also in the Spring on Cedar Creek Lake that the White Bass and Hybrid Striped Bass really start putting their feedbags on and really start feeding heavily making up for the cold water period. This period also encompasses the famous Texas White Bass run when the White Bass start spawning. Overall the spring is just an excellent time for catching numbers of fish whether it be White Bass (Sandbass) Hybrids or Catfish on Cedar Creek Lake.
As Summer approaches at Cedar Creek Lake, it will produce good numbers of Blue Catfish and Channel Catfish and some good sized fish as well. The rod and reel catfishing on Cedar Creek Lake remain good during the summer for the most part with good catches of Cedar Creek Lake Blue Catfish and Cedar Creek Lake Channel Catfish. . The White Bass and Hybrid Striped Bass fishing really heats up during the heat of the summer as well and fishing for Cedar Creek Lake White Bass and Cedar Creek Lake Hybrid Striped Bass generally remains excellent. White Bass and Hybrids will start surface feeding and we will use a number of techniques including slabbing, trolling, live bait fishing and top water fishing. When the days get really hot in the dead of summer, we will focus on fishing early mornings and late evenings and nights on Cedar Creek Lake. The catfishing stays great throughout the summer and some great catfishing will still take place on Cedar Creek Lake. Night fishing trips are also a great way to take in some Cedar Creek Lake catfish in the summer and usually produces some really good numbers of catfish. We also offer Jug Fishing trips on Cedar Creek Lake during the summer for Cedar Creek Lake Blue Catfish and Cedar Creek Lake Channel Catfish. Rod and Reel fishing at night is also available for Flatehead Catfish on Lake Lewisville as well as Night Fishing for Blue Catfish and Cedar Creek Lake Channel Catfish. Gar fishing is also good on rod and reel during the days in the summer.
The bottom line is, the catfishing is great all year long and anytime is a great time to catch some Cedar Creek Lake Catfish. Cedar Creek Lake Stocking History
Cedar Creek Lake Largemouth bass angling is best in the lower end of the reservoir where the water is clear. The lake record weighed 14.65 pounds.Cedar Creek Lake Catfishes are abundant, with more blues than channel cats in the legal size range. Cedar Creek Lake Hybrid striped bass are stocked annually and the lake record is 13.19 pounds.
Most submerged vegetation is located in the backs of coves in the lower end of the reservoir. Some emergent vegetation is present in the upper end but water is very shallow. Look for submersed islands across the lake from the confluence of Clear and Caney creeks.
Anglers generally follow the birds to find schools of white bass and hybrids. Action can be good all year but is particularly good in the spring. Look for largemouth bass in the weedy back ends of coves in the lower third of the lake. Use cut shad or live bait for blue catfish.
